a great article, but there are a few things that we have to come to terms with first before we can fix the problems.According to the IRS Databook for 2008, there are about 154 million taxpayers, which I equate to workers.
According to our good ole uncle sam, unemployment is less then 10%.
For myself, I think its much closer to 20%, but we will use your figures of 132 million.
Now I’m not a math whiz, but if we divide 132 million by 154 million we come up with .8571429 and if we subtract that from 1, we come up with 14 percent, so lets use that as a basis.
Now, using my own personal figures and because I live in a small town where rent used to be cheaper then living in a big city, I estimate that the minimum that a family can live on in America is approximately 52,000 per year and this figure is per household.
So if we go to the dept of labor site which can be found at http://keepamericaatwork.com/?p=910 we find that there are approximately 2 TRILLION dollars worth of jobs that can contribute to society because they make more then the 52,000 average and there are 3 1/2 TRILLION dollars worth of jobs that cannot contribute because they are barely making it.
Now when you factor in the fact that most of the stimulus jobs are road construction, etc., then most likely the only place you are seeing an increase in sales is for beer and cigarettes.
If we really want to see the economy turn around on a dime, all we need to do is put back to work all of the people that have been making more then the 52,000 per year which will mean bringing home a lot of jobs.
Yep, I’m well aware that the globalization proponents will say that stinks of protectionism, but I’m also willing to say that their actions and their use of blinders that do not enable them to see the ramification of their actions are the actual reason that the economy is cratering on a World Wide basis.
To bring the economy back, put Americans back to work and we will do our part and buy th
I was going to say the following before it cut me off
To bring the economy back, put Americans back to work and we will do our part and buy the items that the World produces that we want and if you really want to improve the World’s economy, let’s level the playing field and find a way to stabilize the wage levels in each country using the American wages as an example.
For instance, if a computer programmer here in America gets paid 75,000 per year on average, then lets find a way to pay a computer programmer in Iran and China the same 75,000 so that when we compete for jobs as the globalization proponents want, we will be competing on a skills basis, not a salary difference which cannot be offset by those living in a country such as America where it costs 100 times to live what it may cost to live in India or China.
