The only reason a college exists in America is to train our citizens for the better paying jobs that need more skills than our people possess.
Many of these jobs exist at our colleges.
When a college denies our people the opportunity to compete for these jobs, they have no reason to exist as a college.
Laid-Off Workers to Protest UCSF Offshoring
This was sent by the CWA:
SAN FRANCISCO — On their last day of work, pink-slipped employees will protest the University of California, San Francisco’s decision to replace them with lower-paid workers from India. It is the first time a public university has ever offshored American information technology jobs, undermining its own mission to prepare students for high-tech careers.
WHAT: Laid-off workers demonstrate outside UCSF
WHEN: 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017
WHERE: 1855 Folsom St., San Francisco, CA, 94143
Tomorrow, 79 employees in UCSF’s IT department will lose their middle-class, family-supporting jobs.
It’s the outcome of UC awarding HCL, an outsourcing company headquartered in India, a multimillion-dollar contract to manage the university’s IT infrastructure and networking-related services. Shortly inking the deal last summer, UCSF announced the layoffs. Since then, as a condition of their severance, employees have trained HCL staffers in India over videoconference and workers brought to UCSF on H-1B visas how to do their jobs.
The offshoring could soon spread beyond UCSF, as the HCL contract can be utilized by any of the 10 campuses in the UC system.
